Elaine Hughes – Canine Merishia Massage Therapist
Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up with Staffordshire Bull Terriers and have shared my life with them ever since. Staffies hold a very special place in my heart, but my passion extends to dogs of every shape, size, and story. Supporting them and the people who love them is central to my new direction as a canine professional.
Over the years I’ve worked in a variety of roles and have been self‑employed since 2009, but it was our current dog, Arthur – a young, sensitive Stafford navigating pain and handling challenges – who truly refocused my attention. His journey has opened the door to studying canine wellbeing and sparked a deep commitment to helping other dogs and guardians facing similar struggles.
I am now a qualified Canine Merishia Massage Therapist, with a strong foundation in canine anatomy, movement, and the ways pain and discomfort influence behaviour and posture.
I’m dedicated to ongoing professional development, and in 2027 I will be undertaking further advanced study in fascia‑focused therapeutic techniques to expand and refine my skills.
Why Choose Paws and Flourish?
My approach is rooted in understanding, empathy, and a genuine commitment to helping dogs live more comfortable, confident, and supported lives.
As the guardian of a sensitive dog with ongoing myofascial pain and significant handling challenges, I bring a unique dual perspective to my practice. I understand what it means to advocate for a dog who struggles with touch, to navigate multiple therapies, and to communicate with a range of professionals; all while trying to ensure your dog feels safe, heard, and respected.
This experience shapes everything for me. I see both sides of the fence: therapist and guardian. It allows me to meet dogs exactly where they are, adapt to their emotional and physical needs, and support owners with compassion, clarity, and practical guidance.
